What is a Mobility Session?
A mobility session with a physical therapist is a targeted, hands-on appointment focused on improving how well your body moves. It’s more than just stretching—mobility work combines guided exercises, manual therapy, and joint-specific movements to help restore flexibility, increase range of motion, and improve movement quality. These sessions are tailored to your needs, whether you’re recovering from injury, dealing with stiffness, or trying to prevent future limitations. Mobility sessions help you move better, feel stronger, and perform daily or athletic tasks more efficiently
What is Cupping Therapy?
Therapeutic cupping is a treatment that uses suction to create space between layers of skin, fascia, and muscle. It is not just for athletes or recovery rooms—it is a proven method to reduce tension, increase blood flow, and help stubborn areas loosen up when traditional techniques are not getting the job done. The cups pull instead of press, giving the tissue a chance to decompress and reset.
We use it in physical therapy when someone is dealing with deep tightness, restricted movement, or lingering soft tissue pain. The cups can stay in place or be moved across the skin, depending on what your body needs. It works best as part of a bigger plan that includes movement, strength, and mobility work. It is not a magic fix, but when used right, it can speed up recovery and give your body the room it needs to move better.
How does Therapeutic Cupping work?
During a cupping session, your provider will first ask about your symptoms, mobility issues, or areas of discomfort to determine where to place the cups. This will usually be on the back, shoulders, or other areas with tightness. You’ll lie in a relaxed position while your therapist applies the cups to your skin, creating suction either with a pump or heat. This suction gently then pulls the skin and underlying tissue upward, which may feel like a deep stretch or firm tug but should not be painful. The cups are usually left in place for 5 to 15 minutes, or sometimes moved slowly across the skin to mobilize fascia and muscle. After removal, circular marks may appear, but these are normal signs of increased blood flow and usually fade within a few days. Many patients feel immediate relief, improved range of motion, or reduced tension after treatment. Cupping is often used alongside strength work, stretching, or other rehab exercises as part of a comprehensive care plan.
